A SUCCESSFUL COMMISSIONING OF A MECHANISED BOREHOLE PROJECT AT AKPPESHIKA, NUNGUA

On 4th December 2025, the community of Akpeeshika witnessed the successful commissioning of a newly completed mechanised borehole, a project fully funded by Korklu’s Foundation and commissioned by Wor Lumor Konor Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse (Overlord of the GaDangme State), together with Hon. Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey. The event marked a significant milestone in the Foundation’s commitment to providing sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water.

The ceremony brought together traditional leaders, including Nii Otinor Botchway II, Hon. Nii Bortey Gbejelor II (Nungua Brigade Mantse & Nii Larweh Electoral Area Assembly Member), Hon. Deborah Borquaye (former Sookpoti Assembly Member), Engr. Edgar Nii Kpakpo Addo, as well as religious leaders, youth groups, women’s groups, and residents of the community. The colourful event began with an opening prayer, followed by brief remarks from community leaders who expressed deep appreciation for the Foundation’s timely intervention.

In her commissioning address, Hon. Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to continuously partnering with community leaders and stakeholders to develop similar projects within and beyond underserved communities in Nungua. She encouraged the community to take good care of the facility to ensure its long-term functionality.

The newly installed mechanised borehole is expected to greatly reduce the daily struggle for potable water, especially for women and children who often travel long distances in search of water. With this intervention, the community can now enjoy:

▫️ Improved sanitation and hygiene
▫️ Reduced waterborne diseases
▫️ Enhanced social and economic activities

Residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey and Korklu’s Foundation for this life-changing project. A water management committee was also established to oversee maintenance and ensure the proper usage of the facility.

The commissioning ceremony was a resounding success. The borehole stands as a testament to the dedication of Korklu’s Foundation and Hon. Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey toward improving community wellbeing. The Foundation reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting development projects across various communities
